The field
The same decision changes when the market changes.
A strategy can travel perfectly on a slide and fail the moment it meets a different market. Markets are not simply places where decisions are executed; they are part of what makes a decision right or wrong.
Field notes
Market context is decision context
Regulation, category maturity, technology, distribution, culture, trust and competitive behaviour all change what is possible and what a move will mean once it enters the field.
PreDeciders bring that reality into the decision before the organisation commits to the move.
We do not separate the move from the market it has to survive.
A launch, expansion, partnership or positioning decision may look sound from headquarters and still carry assumptions that do not hold locally.
The question is not simply whether an opportunity exists. It is whether this organisation, with this proposition, under these conditions, should pursue it and how.
What we read
- 01
Demand & behaviour
What people actually value, adopt, resist or ignore beyond what the category says they should.
- 02
Operating reality
The technology, infrastructure, channels, partnerships and commercial conditions that determine what can genuinely be delivered.
- 03
Reputation & trust
What carries credibility in the market, where scepticism sits and how an organisation is likely to be interpreted before it has earned familiarity.
- 04
Regulation & constraint
The formal and informal boundaries that can alter the route to market, the proposition or the pace of entry.
- 05
Timing
Whether the market is ready for the move and whether the organisation is ready for the market.
Field notes
Not localisation after the fact
Too often, the central decision is made first and the market is asked to adapt to it later.
The product is set. The proposition is fixed. The narrative is approved. The investment is committed.
Then local teams are asked to make it work.
PreDeciders reverse that sequence. We bring market reality upstream, while it can still influence the proposition, the positioning, the operating model and the decision itself.
Source / method
What market reading should change
- 01Whether to move
- The opportunity may be real without being right for the organisation now.
- 02How to enter
- The right route may require a different partner, proposition, channel or sequence.
- 03What to say
- A position that travels well internally may carry a very different meaning in the market.
- 04What to build around the move
- Capability, partnerships and reputation may need to come before scale.
- 05When to commit
- Sometimes the advantage is speed. Sometimes it is knowing what must be true before moving.
Field notes
The purpose is not to describe the market
Market intelligence has value only when it changes a decision.
We are not interested in producing a more detailed picture of the field if the organisation leaves with the same assumptions it entered with.
The objective is a stronger position: what the market makes possible, what it makes dangerous, and what the organisation should do differently because of it.
A market should not be asked to adapt to a decision that was made without it.
